Some of the influences for this CD include: Jimmy Reed for “Bar Stool Blues”; Little Willie John for “New Year’s Song”; Neil Young for “Fallen Angel”; Ray Charles for “The Confidence Man” and “Come On Home”; Steely Dan for “You Got Me So Stoned Today” and “The Way I Choose to Play Your Game”; Carlos Jobim for “You’ll Feel Free” and Mickey Newberry for “Is This My Guru?”. “Invitation to a Shower” is patterned after an old time jazz ballad format.
About The Blue Deer Logo
The Blue Deer logo was inspired by the mythology of the Huichol Indians who live in the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico. During a trip to the area several years ago, my partner and I met a family of Huichols and came to greatly admire their art and culture.
We learned that they are one of the few indigenous cultures that have been able to continue many aspects of their rich traditional life and spiritual practices. The Huichols see themselves as prophets and healers of the planet. The deer is one of their spirit guides. As we, at Blue Deer Music, consider music a healing force, the blue deer seemed appropriate as a symbol of this process.
